Supported metro pages can use American Community Survey estimates for median gross rent, median household income, population, and median owner-occupied home value. These are survey estimates for a broad geography and reference period. They are not current listings, neighborhood prices, or a promise that a particular household can obtain housing at the median.
Public benchmarks are context. Your inputs drive the decision.
See which Census, BLS, tax, and user-provided data TOOOLBOX MOVE uses, how each source is interpreted, and what the datasets cannot establish.
U.S. Census Bureau context
Census context is useful for scale and comparison. When your actual rent quote is available, the calculator should use that quote instead of substituting the metro median.
Bureau of Labor Statistics context
Labor-market context can include a cached BLS unemployment measure associated with the supported geography or state. It is a broad economic indicator, not a forecast for a company, occupation, or individual job offer.
A low unemployment rate does not establish job security, and a high rate does not determine the quality of a specific role. The product presents the period and source context where available.
Tax model and user inputs
Federal brackets, standard deductions, employee FICA rules, and modeled state-income-tax treatments are maintained in the TOOOLBOX MOVE calculation code for the stated tax year. The model is intentionally narrower than tax-preparation software.
Salary, filing status, rent, and spending entered into the calculator are scenario inputs. They are not public facts and should be checked against offer documents, payroll guidance, leases, insurance quotes, and a household budget.
Refreshes, provenance, and missing data
Public market rows are cached so a result can load consistently. A page can show the source vintage or update period available to the product. An update date means the cache was refreshed; it does not mean every underlying survey observation was collected on that date.
Missing data is displayed as missing or updating rather than silently replaced with a favorable number. Automated city tables are not currently submitted for indexing while their explanatory analysis is expanded. The public sitemap is limited to the calculator, methodology, source, trust, and policy pages.
